More than 500 Heath minis celebrate the end of another successful rugby season

On Sunday more than 500 Heath minis and juniors aged from Under 6 through to Under 15 celebrated the end of another successful season for the youth section of Haywards Heath Rugby Club.

A packed Whitemans Green witnessed fun and games as each age group joined in everything from Tug of War to an Obstacle Race and Pass the Ball through a cut out model of a rugby coach!

There followed a BBQ and all age groups sat together in the sunshine as the awards for Player of the Season and Most Improved Player were presented by Club Chairman Mark Newey and former Heath youth player Jamie Ure.

Jamie recently represented Scotland at U19 level and since he first played rugby at Heath through the minis and junior age groups had dreamt of a day when he might be in a position to present the Club with his international shirt, to sit alongside those of other former Heath players who have represented their country and decorate the walls of the Clubhouse. Jamie fulfilled that ambition on Sunday much to the delight of Heath minis, their parents and all at the Club.

The Heath Minis End of Season Awards Day, which is generously supported by Handcross Park School, was a great occasion which showed the strength of Heath’s youth rugby throughout the age groups and the fantastic social opportunity Heath offers as a community rugby club. The rugby season starts again at the beginning of September although there are two junior rugby camps running at Heath over the summer months. Harlequins are running a summer camp for players age 6 to 14 over two days from 28th to 29th July and the Kiwis are back at the end of August with a full week of rugby fun from 22nd to 26th August. You do not have to be a member of the Club to take part and it is a great way to get a taste of rugby before joining the Club next season.
