Perkins targets the 80-minute performance

LIAM Perkins believes the 80-minute performance is the next target for Worthing Raiders after they made it three wins from four National 1 matches on Saturday.

Worthing also recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season and Perkins, who touched down what turned out to be the winning try at Richmond, said afterwards: “It’s a brilliant win, we made it difficult for ourselves at the start of the second half but, overall, it was a great effort by the lads.

“When we build phases, there’s not many teams in this league that can live with us. That 80-minute performance is the next thing that we need.”

On touching down the winning try, Perkins said: “It’s always nice to score but the performance in the end and the defence on our own line was what made it today. It was absolutely first class.

“It’s a massive win for us and that’s three wins in four for us now. Confidence coming into this game was top, anyway. We know that we can compete against anyone but, like I say, it’s the 80-minute performance that we’re looking for now.

“We’d like to push on now. There’s sort of two mini leagues within this league, so we want to finish top of our mini league this season and we’re more than capable of doing that as that was our aim coming in to this season.”

Raiders were without ten-try top-scorer Alex Nielsen, who was unavailable on Saturday and head coach Kieron Dawson said: “His form has been sensational over the last three or four weeks and we were worried about maybe missing him.

“But the rest of the lads just really stepped in there and stepped up to the plate. It was just a great all-round team performance.”
