Pulborough wrap up league title and target undefeated season

There were muted celebrations from Pulborough’s players after the game - their dominance at this level has meant winning the league has long been considered a formality.

With the championship now wrapped up, coach Clay Saunders has set his sights on completing an undefeated league season and winning a second trophy when the team competes in the Sussex Shield final on May 10.

He said: “From a coach’s point of view my focus has moved on to the final on May 10 - to win that would be one of the best seasons in Pulborough history.

“The aim at the beginning of the season was to get promotion. As it progressed the goal moved on to go the whole season undefeated, the players laid that down for themselves.

“It was a bit of an anti-climax at the end of the game - a lot of the boys forgot we had won the league.”

In their first game for a month, Pulborough earned their 19th win from 19 contests by overpowering Crowborough.

They opened the scoring within five minutes and raced out to a 17-0 lead, though their opponents scored a try before half time.

Just as they have done all season long, Pulborough stepped their game up in the last 20 minutes, and the final score finished 43-12.

Brad Game scored two tries, with Frazer Oliphant-Hope, Harry Perry, Ewan Callaway and Henry Lee also crossing the line.

Oliphant-Hope made five of his six conversions and added a penalty.

Pulborough face three more league fixtures, with the final match of the league season set to be a test against third placed Eastbourne.
