Raiders set for crucial day in title

WORTHING Raiders Rugby Club head coach Kieron Dawson knows that Saturday’s fixtures could have a big say in the National 2 South title run-in.

Leaders Raiders host fifth-placed Shelford, who they lost 22-21 away to earlier in the season. Elsewhere, second-placed Redruth entertain fourth-placed Hartpury College and third-placed Henley Hawks are at eighth-placed Canterbury.

Dawson said: “It could be a crucial weekend for the run-in and we’ll have one eye on Twitter and what’s happening in the other games.”

Saturday’s match is a chance for Raiders to get revenge on Shelford for the defeat earlier in the season and Dawson said: “It was our most disappointing result and performance of the season away to them.

“We knew what we had to do to beat them and we didn’t do it. It was one of the few occasions that I had to get the hair-dryer out in the dressing room after the game as we didn’t stick to our plans.

“The players are chomping at the bit. I know the politically correct thing is so say we’re not looking for revenge, but all of the players are desperate to beat them.”

Raiders are without Joe Burns, who is unavailable, but Jordan McIntyre could return from a broken foot.

The game starts at 3pm at Roundstone Lane.
