Rocks Review: Club wlecomes youngsters in honour of Sir Bobby Robson

As part of the FA's 150th anniversary celebrations, this Saturday (August 10) has been designated as the Sir Bobby Robson Football Day.

To celebrate the anniversary and to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the death of Sir Bobby, 150 events will be held by county football associations and FA Standard charter clubs to showcase the FA’s work at grassroots level and to give the nation the opportunity to take part in football.

One such event will be at Bognor’s Nyewood Lane as the Rocks begin their Ryman League premier-division campaign at home to newly-promoted Grays Athletic.

As part of the day’s celebrations, several of the boys teams associated with the Rocks will benefit from training sessions and five-a-side matches before the match, and a half-time penalty shoot out between the sides participating – all on the hallowed turf of Nyewood Lane.

The club run six junior sides with age groups from under-ten to under-16, but would very much like to add to both the number of sides that play under the club’s name and also the number players involved.

There is also a need for additional coaches and team managers who can help develop the various teams. Representatives of the youth set-up will be present to talk to any child or parent who may be interested.
