Rocks Review: First-day win puts team in good heart for Met Police test

The Rocks open their home Ryman premier campaign against old rivals Met Police tonight heartened by the way their season took off at Concord.

Goals from Ashley Robinson, Mu Maan and James Crane earned a 3-1 win in Essex and put them second in the first-day league table.

Now they expect a tougher test as the Met - who pipped them to the Ryman one south title by one goal in 2010-11 - visit Nyewood Lane tonight.

The Rocks are likely to be unchanged after coming home from Concord unscathed, which should mean home debuts for Maan - against his former club - and former Pompey and Havant teenage midfielder Lewis Stockford.

They also welcome striker Omar Foulkes into the squad although he seems set to start on the bench.

Joint manager Jamie Howell said: “We were delighted with the win at Concord. We were a bit apprehensive early on but scored at crucial times and were pretty comfortable after we went 3-1 up.

“I must admit I didn’t expect it to be so comfortable. We weren’t unhappy at 1-1 and to go 2-1 up before the break was a bonus.

“The lads all took their goals well and it was a good effort all round.

“It takes a little bit of pressure off when you get some early points on the board, but we know Met Police will be a big test for us.

“They didn’t get off to the best start, losing at Weladstone, and will be determined to get their season up and running. It should be a very good game.”

Kick-off is at 7.45pm. Match updates and report at www.bognor.co.uk - reaction in the Bognor Observer on Thursday.
