ROCKS REVIEW: Injuries hamper Rocks' Hampton replay plans

Stuart Axten is likely to be out for three weeks with ankle ligament damage and will definitely miss the FA Trophy replay at Hampton and Richmond on Tuesday night.

The defender was hurt in the closing stages of Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Nyewood Lane and looks like being out until the middle of December.

Jon Marzetti is favourite to replace him. He was ill on Saturday and didn’t feature but has recovered - and has played in the heart of defence before even though Bognor fans have seen him only at full-back.

The other big doubt is Michael Birmingham. The captain and midfielder hobbled out of Saturday’s first game with a calf problem and is rated only at 50/50 to be fit for the replay.

Kane Wills, who missed the first match through a work commitment, would be favourite to slot into his central midfield role - and may start even if Birmingham does if the Rocks again prefer a three-man midfield and only one winger away from home.

There are no other injury worries and joint boss Jamie Howell is upbeat ahead of a game which offers the prize of £4,000 and a trip to AFC Sudbury in the first round for the winners.

Howell said: “We were excellent in the first half on Saturday - it was as well as we’ve played this season. You’d have struggled to know which side played two divisions higher.

“We were disappointed to get caught by their two goals but it’s a sign of our confidence in our own ability and in our knack of finding goals that we battled on and earned a replay.

“The replay will be a different proposition but we will give it our best shot. Many of our best performances this season have been away from home so that gives us hope.”

We will have updates from the Beveree on this website on Tuesday evening and a report soon after the end of the game, which will go to extra-time and penalties if required.
