ROCKS REVIEW: Prior can play in the Football League - but should stay for now

Jamie Howell has told Jason Prior he has what it takes to play in the Football League but has advised him: Give us another season first.

The Rocks striker scored 44 goals last season – and has hit 67 in 94 appearances for the club.

Now he is attracting interest from clubs at higher levels.

But he still has a year left on his Nyewood Lane contract and Rocks joint boss Howell hopes he increases the options open to him with another goal-laden season in Ryman one south.

The management want to keep the vast majority of the current squad together for another title tilt and are hopeful most will stay.

Howell said: “He’s a year left on his contract and we hope he’ll see it out. If an offer were to come in that was good for him and for the club we wouldn’t stand in his way.

But our view is another season here could really make him.

“He has the ability to play at a higher level – I think we may see him in the Football League one day – but he has time on his side.”

Another star man who may be tempted away is winger Ben Johnson, who has had a trial at Dagenham & Redbridge and is waiting to see if the League Two outfit follow up their interest.

But the indications at the supporters’ club’s end-of-season player awards night was that most of the squad are getting over missing out on promotion and want to give it another go.
