Rugby: Chichester beat Worthing in battle of the unbeaten colts

Both sides were unbeaten in Sussex Premiership League games this season and it was always going to be tight.

When Charlie Wallace stole the ball in a maul he broke away and offloaded to Ben Clink who chipped and chased his own kick half the length of the pitch to score the first try. Henry Anscombe converted.

Soon Chichester put into place a well-drilled lineout move - they won the ball on Worthing’s five-metre line and the pack rumbled forward with hooker Harry Shonk at the rear dropping to touch down. Jack Davies’ conversion doubled Chichester’s lead.

Just before half-time Worthing charged down an attempted clearance and from the ensuing lineout the ball span down their back-line to their super quick wingwe, who scored a try in the corner. The conversion left Worthing just one converted try down at the interval. Early in the second half Chichester won the ball from Worthing’s lineout and Josh Cowell jinked past the defence and with sheer determination his momentum carried him over the line.

Worthing scored a second try when Chichester’s defensive tackling fell short of the mark, which left them in with a chance.

Chichester saw out the final few minutes to keep their 100 per cent record intact and earned four points.
