Rugby: Chichester lads win at Crawley - three times

Chichester's under-16 rugby side kick-started their 2012-13 season with a friendly at Crawley (pictured above) and a workmanlike victory from the visitors certainly put Chichester in good stead for the upcoming season.

Crawley tested Chichester in various departments but Chichester became more adventurous and innovative in an expansive set of 20-minute games. Their tackling stood out and limited the home pack in a satisfying encounter in which the boys showed endurance and aggression.

Chichester were clinical in moving the ball, and made full use of the backs who exploited the gaps in the Crawley defence, resulting in outright wins of 24-0, 10-7 and 19-0.

Notably there were two tries apiece for newly-elected captain Robin Aldridge and Hugo Tucker during the day and James Moss kicked well for some of the conversions.

Jack Gibbons’ performance was commended by the coaches as he made a significant impact in the game after making the transition from wing to the back row for this season.

It was a positive start to the season from the under-16 boys with a good team effort on a physically-demanding day because of the heat.

This week the Chichester boys travel to Fareham in the hope of winning their final friendly before the first league game of the season later in the month.
