Weakened Chichester colts have enough at Hove

For their Under-18 Sussex Premiership league match at Hove, Chichester foursome Tom Stride, Jack Walker, Joe Woods and Jacob Poulton were not available as they had been asked to attend the under-18 London division trials.

The team knew they would have to perform well as a unit to keep their 100 per cent winning record in the league intact - and did so to win 20-6.

The game was tight in the first half and it took Chichester 15 minutes to open the scoring as they put into place a well-rehearsed lineout move on the Hove five-metre line and hooker Harry Shonk rumbled forward to ground the ball.

Hove came straight back and scored a penalty kick. Jack Davies took his opportunity to slot one over to re-establish the five-point lead.

Just before half-time Hove converted another penalty to reduce the visitors’ advantage at the interval.

Chichester played better in the second half and Shonk burst through from a ruck and stretched out his arm to plant the ball on the line for his second try.

Late on Chichester replicated their first-half lineout move and Shonk capped his man-of-the-match performance with a third try. Davies’ conversion gave Chichester an unassailable lead.
