Sailing fun week creates a splash

BEXHILL Sailing Club is currently on a high with their Cadet Fun Week welcoming in excess of 40 youngsters to join in a variety of training and fun activities on and off the water.

The week started with the RYAs national racing coach Tracy Moss giving cadets the benefit of her experience and expertise as part of Bexhill's status as a Volvo Championship Club.

The cadets undergo training on their regular Thursday evening meetings but this added a real boost which should help those who represent Bexhill at open meetings across the country. Some already sail to a very high standard and are seeking inclusion in the Regional Youth Squad which is the first step up the ladder to the Olympics.

Tuesday night also saw the briefing evening for this year's intake of 44 adult sailing students who are about to commence their 10-week RYA level 2 course which has proved very successful and is now in its 20th year. Club training principal Ray Dixon said that demand is such that there is the possibility of the club running an additional course on Tuesday evenings starting next month.

Cadet captains Debbie Redman and Stephanie Sprigings were delighted with the support they got from parents and club members throughout the week which enabled so many of the youngsters to get on the water, although most preferred to be in it. The cadets showed their appreciation by entertaining members at a beach barbecue.
