SAME STORY FOR SAD SIDLEY

SIDLEY UNITED 1 PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE 2

SIDLEY United experienced a touch of deja-vu at Gullivers on Tuesday night as their home hoodoo continued with defeat at the hands of lowly Peacehaven & Telscombe.

The result was The Blues fifth consecutive home loss and means they have now won only twice at Gullivers in all competitions this season.

All the goals came in a frantic six-minute spell early in the second half, with Paul Balch equalizing from close range in the 53rd minute.

But sloppy defending allowed Peacehaven to hit the winner just three minutes later to make it a familiar ending for United who have now lost by a single goal in their last four games.

Joint-manager Peter Heritage said: "It is the same old story every week. We seem to have to create 15 chances just to score one goal. They had three chances and scored two goals, but that is the story of our season so far.

"That's six straight defeats and it's affecting the whole team. There is no magic cure to stop it, we just have to keep on working hard and hope things change."

The visitors went into the game on the back of a 7-0 drubbing by Three Bridges three days before and it looked as if they would go down to a similar score as United dominated the early stages.

But as in most of United's games this season The Blues had no trouble creating goal-scoring chances, but putting them away is a concept that seems to have totally eluded them.

With 20 minutes gone, Dave Ward hit a shot which seemed destined for the net only for visiting keeper Ian Sutton to outstretch an arm and tip the long range effort onto the crossbar.

United continued to dominate play and came close to taking the lead on the half hour mark when the woodwork again came to the aid of the visitors as Wes Tate's shot cannoned off the post.

The half finished with a succession of corners for the home side with Shea Spreafico going close with a header from short range as another home chance went begging.

After the break United were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal when Jon Donohue put the visitors ahead.

The home defence were left ball watching as the visiting striker got behind Chris Copley and fired home from 15 yards.

United hit back almost immediately when pressure by Balch caused Sutton to spill a great curling cross from Russell Eldridge, leaving Balch with the simple task of knocking the ball home.

But just as it looked like United had got back into the game, another defensive error gave Peacehaven the chance to grab all three points.

A poor kick from home keeper Jon Gardner handed the visitors possession and midfielder Carl Lloyd hit a shot from 20 yards which deflected off a forest of Sidley legs and looped over Gardner to seal the win and condemn Sidley to a sixth successive death.
