For every rider the best four results out of the five rounds are added up, with 20 points being awarded to the winner of each stage and 17 for second place, meaning Samuel won three of the four races he competed in.

Samuel’s mother, Lynda Meeten, is really proud of her son and explains the intensity of his training and his busy competing schedule as he competes on both motorbikes and pushbikes.

She said: “He learnt to ride around the age of five or six and then went on to compete when he was six or seven and he has pushed on since then.

“He trains a lot, he rides a lot in our garden and practices there, as well as riding on rocks down the beach, where he gets a crowd watching him.

“He then goes to compete on the weekends, every weekend he is either doing motorbike trials or pushbike trials, so it is a lot for him.”

Lynda also explained the work of her husband and Samuel’s father, Perry Meeton, who is the person who takes Samuel across the country to compete.

Perry, who also competes, has passed down his skill to Samuel as he trains with him and helps to progress.

“It’s a lot of travelling as it is a very northern based sport, with a lot of competitors and tracks being based in Yorkshire and Scotland, so it is a lot of traveling for the two.

“Perry got him into the sport and realised that Samuel had a talent and they have ridden together ever since,” added Lynda.
