Saxons can’t afford slip-ups

South Saxons can ill-afford any more slip-ups as they contest another tricky game tomorrow (Saturday).

Saxons have slid to third place and are three points behind South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One leaders Mid-Sussex II following last weekend’s 4-2 reverse away to Brighton & Hove III.

Ahead of the trip to sixth-placed Worthing II tomorrow (Saturday), Saxons captain Paddy Cornish said: “We’ve got another tough game this week. Hopefully we can put in a good performance and take away some points.

“We definitely need something because it won’t be too long before the confidence will drop and we’ll definitely be in a bit of a mess. We’ve always not really travelled brilliantly; that’s just the Saxons way I think.” Tudor Stainsby is expected to return.

Standings (all played eight matches): 1 Mid-Sussex II 19pts, 2 Brighton & Hove III 18, 3 SOUTH SAXONS 16, 4 Penguin 15, 5 Crowborough 13, 6 Worthing II 12, 7 Eastbourne II 12, 8 Crawley II 10, 9 Middleton & Bognor 9, 10 Hailsham 8, 11 Lewes III 7, 12 Horsham III 1.
