Saxons pick up point at Penguin

South Saxons produced a Jekyll and Hyde performance in a 4-4 draw away to Penguin on Saturday.

Saxons recovered from a poor first half display with a terrific showing in the second period of a fixture between two of the South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One play-off hopefuls.

Penguin opened the scoring and although Alex Coombs rounded-off a good team to equalise, the hosts struck twice more to lead 3-1 before Toby Reed pulled one back on the stroke of half time.

After a rocket from captain Pete Watters during the interval, Saxons were a different team and a couple of Dave Draper drag flicks from short corners put them ahead only for Penguin to level near the end.

Saxons remain fourth in the table and are now three points behind second-placed Lewes III, albeit with a game in hand and a much better goal difference.
