Saxons seek to continue perfect start

South Saxons have made just about the perfect start in their quest to clinch the league title.

Saxons top the fledgling South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One table with two wins out of two having scored 14 and conceded only one.

After the 9-1 win at home to Eastbourne III and last weekend’s 5-0 success at Brighton & Hove III, captain Pete Watters said: “Both games we probably could’ve had a few more goals, but I couldn’t ask for a lot more.”

Next up tomorrow (Saturday, push-back 1.30pm) is a home game against a Crawley II side which has lost both its games 3-2 so far, away to Penguin and at home to Crowborough.

Unbeaten in 28 competitive encounters, Saxons will be looking for a convincing win and decent performance ahead of next weekend’s crunch trip to Lewes II, who have scored 14 and conceded two in their two matches to date.

Dan Burnett is unavailable, but Paddy Cornish is hoping to play the full 70 minutes having surprisingly made it through around half of last weekend’s fixture despite suffering with a heel injury.
