Saxons upbeat about top two showdown

South Saxons are “quietly confident” going into a second versus first clash at Horntye Park Sports Complex.

Saxons will entertain Horsham II in the biggest game of the South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One season so far tomorrow (Saturday).

Their captain Paddy Cornish said: “I’m quietly confident. I’m still a bit wary of them because we don’t know what to expect, but as long as we do what we have been doing, I can’t really ask for a lot more.”

Saxons are second in the table with 10 points from their first four matches, while Horsham lead the way with 12 out of 12 and the West Sussex outfit has the edge in terms of goal difference.

“I think they will be our main rivals for the title,” continued Cornish. “Lewes threes will still be good competition, but I think Horsham twos will be the team that will be fighting to the end.

“It will be a good test to see how good we really are. A draw isn’t all bad, but we’ve got to look for the win to be honest.” George Eldridge is expected to return in place of Wayne Callaghan. Push-back is 1.30pm.
