School cricketers to play at Trent Bridge

TALENTED young cricketers from Little Common County Primary School will fulfil their dreams next week.

The young guns will follow in the footsteps of some of the game's greats by playing at the world famous Trent Bridge.

Tuesday's appearance at the Test match hosting Nottingham ground is their reward for reaching the national finals of The Kwik Cricket Tournament.

A spokesman for the school said: "It is a great honour to be representing all the schools from the South East region in a national event, and the cricket team and their families are looking forward to what will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience."

Having already won the Hastings local round, Little Common became county and regional champions in the space of 48 hours last week.

In the Davies & Tate-sponsored East Sussex event at The County Ground, Hove, on Tuesday, last week, Little Common came second in their four-strong group before strolling into the final courtesy of a 59-run defeat of Tollgate.

The decider was a far closer affair, but Little Common just got the better of Southover thanks to a miserly last over from James Vaughan.

Former England and Worcestershire spinner Norman Gifford presented the prizes, which included a Gray-Nicolls Powerbow bat to player of the match Vaughan.

Two days later, Little Common represented East Sussex in the Asda-backed regional competition against schools from Kent, Surrey and London.

They cruised through to the final where they scraped past a strong Old Bexley School side by scoring eight runs off the final over.

The under-11s event is an eight-a-side affair and teams are required to field both male and female players.
