Schools shine at biathlon championships

LOCAL schools are celebrating considerable success in the South East England Schools' Regional Biathlon Championships.

Their performances were such that St Richard's Catholic College and Bexhill High School will both be well represented at the British Schools' Biathlon Championships at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, in February.

St Richard's returned from Christ's Hospital, Horsham, with a haul of 20 medals and eight of their pupils qualified for national finals. Pride of place goes to the year 11 boys' team who won their event and pushed last year's national winners Salesian College into second place.

Bexhill High will take five students to Norwich, three of whom comprise the year seven girls' team that finished second. The trio are Jade Rose, who came second in the individual event, Amber Lane and Angharad Morgan.

The line-up will be completed by Hannah Bergin, who came fifth in the year 10 girls' event, and George Hucker, who claimed the last of the six qualifying spots in the year seven boys' competition.

Chantry's Sophie Hunnisett, pictured above with the Bexhill High qualifiers, will also make the journey to Norfolk after finishing second in the year six girls' section.
