Scott sizes up Olympic venue

Steve Scott got a taste of the new Olympic shooting range on Monday.

The Battle marksman shot at The Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich alongside those competing in the ISSF World Cup London event.

Scott said: “The venue itself was very impressive and it was probably the highest security I’ve seen in any of the international competitions I’ve been to over the last 10 years.”

The 27-year-old Scott wasn’t among the three British shooters taking part in the actual double trap competition, which doubled up as an Olympic Games test event.

Instead he was competing in what’s called the NQS - a secondary level event - so it was all about getting a good score rather than a final position. Scott had rounds of 46, 44 and 46 for a total of 136/150.

Of the British shooters competing in the main event, Peter Wilson just missed out on the six-man final with 138/150, while Richard Faulds and Stevan Walton were well down the list on 128.

The GB Olympic team will be named in May. A Commonwealth Games gold medallist in the double trap pairs two years ago, Scott is heading off to Italy this weekend where he will again be competing NQS at the ISSF World Cup Lonato.
