Sell-out field expected for festive race

A sell-out field is expected, as usual, for the Christmas Pudding Dash at Ashburnham Place this coming Saturday.

Race organisers Nice Work expect to see around 350 Father and Mother Christmases, Christmas puddings, elves, pixies and probably a couple of reindeers as well.

Apart from the children’s races - which precede the main event - it is unlikely there will be spaces on the day, although people can call (01797) 230009 to check.

This year’s course has changed slightly from previous years, but it will still be around five miles in length and will still be very muddy.

One piece of good news, however, is that organisers have taken out the long hill up the drive so the revised multi-terrain course is no longer classed as ‘hilly’!

The usual mince pies, Christmas puddings and a special Christmas medal will be on offer at the finish line. The charity for this year’s race is MND.

The race - which this year is celebrating its 10th birthday - will get under way at 10.30am and will feature chip timing.

It’s a rare opportunity to run through the grounds of Ashburnham Place - a setting of great natural beauty with over 220 acres rich in wildlife.

* A DVD of the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road 10K race has been produced.

It shows a preview, the race itself, prize-giving and encore, and event organisers the Hastings and Bexhill Lions Clubs believe it will be a wonderful memento of such a great day.

All monies raised from the sales of the film - which was made by Steve and Andrew Clifton - will be split between the Lions clubs and Hastings Bonfire Society.

The DVD will be available at £5 each from tomorrow by visiting www.hastings-half.co.uk and selecting the ‘souvenirs’ option.

More than £14,000 has been raised from the event, money which will be used by the Bexhill and Hastings Lions Clubs for the benefit of those in need in our area.

Organisers again wish to thank and acknowledge the great support of Hotchief Taylor Woodrow, who allowed the event to take place back on Sunday September 20.

More than 1,000 runners took part in the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road 10K, which gave competitors a unique chance to run along the new Combe Valley Way - as the link road has been named - before it opens to traffic.
