Shepheard is star again as Glynde earn a giant win at Gullivers Sports Ground

Sussex Cricket League 1st XI Div Two

Sidley 351-4 dec Glynde & Beddingham 355

GLYNDE stormed to a giant four-wicket win in a high-scoring affair at Sidley’s Gullivers Sports Ground.

Dominic Shepheard was the hero with the bat again – after last week’s unbeaten 91 against St James’s Montefiore, he this week made it to three figures with a century to help his side to 24 winning points.

Sidley won the toss and elected to bat first. Peter King was first out on 40 having first put on a half century for the first wicket with Sam Steele (16).

Paul Thomson was soon out for a duck and John Haffenden didn’t last much longer, but it was batters No 5 and 6 who made the real impact for Sidley. Neil Priddy and Paul Swannell came together at 98-4 with Priddy on 25 and the pair went on to score 253 together to allow their captain, Haffenden, to declare on 351-4 after 48 overs. Priddy finished on 132 not out and Swannell 136 not out.

Dale Tranter (2-51) and Adam Davies (2-42) took the four wickets to fall.

In reply, Archie Burrows (12) and Chris Stanyard got Glynde off to a good start, putting 70 on for the first wicket.

Stanyard and Shepheard, at first change, then added another 84 runs for the second wicket before Stanyard was caught by Ian May off the bowling of Steele for 84.

But that just allowed Robert Mouland to come in and put on a further 143 runs with Shepheard before Shepheard was finally out for 104.

Mouland then received some back-up at the other end from members of the Glynde middle order as three wickets fell over the next 32 runs, before he and Chris Baker saw the visitors over the finishing line. Mouland was 89 not out at the end. Swannell and Priddy took two wickets apiece on a day when the play was definitely dominated by the bat. The win pushed Glynde up one place to fifth. Sidley picked up 13 points.
