Shepherd's back on the goal trail

SOUTHWICK Football Club recorded their third successive win and are now unbeaten in six league matches after Saturday's victory over Crawley Down.

Wickers had won their previous match 2-1 against Lingfield but Crawley Down also took a maximum haul from their last game by battering promotion favorites Peacehaven 5-1.

These recent triumphs, and with both sides currently lurking near the foot of the table, suggested this clash was to be a significant test of staying power and determination.

Crawley Down had the edge for the opening 15 minutes, but as Southwick's steady defense formed an impressive barrier, their attacking force proved itself to have more of an irritating nibble than a dangerous bite. Their creative intentions were rarely matched by technical ability but an obvious surge of confidence saw Southwick push up.
