Shooting star Digweed on target again

The Northiam-based star followed up his silver medal in the World Cup a fortnight ago by winning a highly prestigious event in Oxfordshire last weekend.

In fact, Digweed only narrowly missed out on a 10th World Cup title because he was just a solitary clay behind Christophe Auvret, the French winner.

The World Cup standings are determined by competitors’ best three results from around seven counting competitions throughout the season, one of which must be the World Championships.

Digweed had wins in Russia and South Africa, and came tied 14th at the World FITASC Championships in Orville, France, from July 14-17 with a total of 187/200.

Digweed, number one on the Fiocchi World FITASC Sporting Clay Shooting rankings, is never away from the winner’s circle for long, though, and he was back to winning ways at the CLA Game Fair. He was the only participant to shoot 40 straight at the spectacular Blenheim Palace.

Although Digweed has won 19 World Championships in total (the other 11 in Sporting), 11 European FITASC titles and three European Compak crowns during a glittering career, he regards 2011 as one of his finest years.

The 47-year-old has won three times in the United States, twice in South Africa, and once in New Zealand, France and Russia, as well as five big shoots in the United Kingdom since the turn of the year.
