Shooting star grabs Czech Grand Prix glory

The tournament in Prague was another fiercely-fought event in which Digweed eventually edged out the rest of the field with a score of 184/200.

In cold and wet conditions, George posted 88/100 on Saturday and followed it up with a score of 96/100 on Sunday.

It was a tough course that was made all the more difficult by the weather, and Digweed was pleased to come out of the weekend with another gold to add to his collection.

“I’m absolutely thrilled with this victory, especially as it was so hard won,” he said. “It was a fantastic set-up and it’s always that bit more satisfying when you win at such a tricky course.”

Digweed, 48, was also impressed with the city of Prague and visited the speedway racing before the tournament got underway.

“One of the privileges of being in my position is seeing so many of the world’s great cities. Prague is a beautiful place and I look forward to returning in the future,” he went on.

The Northiam marksman’s fine start to the season has seen him win the FITASC and Compak Championships in South Africa in March, and clinch the Eley Cartridge Prize at the Classic Handicap Final earlier this month.

Digweed’s astonishing career haul of trophies includes 19 World titles (11 Sporting and eight Fitasc), 11 European Fitasc titles, three European Compak titles and nine World Cups. He was also made an MBE.
