Shooting star is bang on target

The first shoot of the new campaign is always a tough one but the Northiam-based marksman passed the test with flying colours by securing the FITASC Pan African with a score of 192/200 and the Compak Championships with 194/200.

Digweed, 47, hit the ground running with a score of 96/100 on day one and followed it up with another 96/100 the next day.

Things got even better in the Compak as Digweed hit 98/100 on day three and 96/100 on day four. This was a fantastic achievement especially as the shoot was held in hot and windy conditions.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Digweed said. “It’s always exciting to be back after the off-season, but the first shoot of a new year is a challenge. I’m very happy to have got my 2012 season off to a winning start.”

This was Digweed’s sixth successive win in South Africa, a record stretching back to 2007, and he was once again charmed by the beautiful country.

“I love it here and always enjoy coming. Not only is the shooting great, but they’ve also got a great set-up for one of my other passions - golf.

“I played at a great course near Stellenbosch before the tournament and won a little money on the side. It’s been a perfect week. As always, I leave South Africa eager to return.”
