Sibiya hits a ton on first appearance

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club's new overseas player, South African, Siya Sibiya smashed 105 not out in a friendly on Saturday in his first appearance for the club.

He was playing for Littlehampton 3rd against Findon 3rd.

Findon won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 177-8 from their 40 overs. Nick Hawke scored 51 with Bruce Brogan, Neil Hewitt and Sibiya all taking two wickets.

In reply, Littlehampton fell to 16-3 before a 162 run fourth-wicket stand between Sibiya and Chris Heberlein. Heberlein finished unbeaten on 50.

Sibiya, 18, said: "It was a dream start. I didn't think it would go that well. I thought that if I got over 10 I'd have done well batting for the first time on an English wicket.

"It was cold and conditions were a lot different to what I'm used to but I've always wanted to play here."
