Sidley deny promotion chasers

SIDLEY remain bottom of Sussex County Cricket League after picking up just five points from their draw away to second-placed Stirlands on Saturday.

The home side were able to declare on a formidable 235-3 after an inspired innings by Australian Peter Cross who hit 163 not out from 142 balls.

Sidley batted resolutely in reply and a knock of 52 from captain Scott Woodroffe meant they finished the day on 166-9. Steve Peyman was the most impressive bowler for Stirlands with figures of 4-22.

Bexhill's match against Cuckfield was abandoned due to rain.
