Sidley draw a blank

SIDLEY United fought out a goalless draw at home to Burgess Hill Town on Tuesday.

Both teams left with their Sussex League unbeaten records intact as neither set of strikers could find a way through two very stingy defences.

Burgess Hill were the stronger side on the night, winning the physical midfield battle by consistently hounding their opponents out of possession.

Although the home side battled hard, their ball winners lacked the bite of the visitors.

Burgess Hill had the early chances with Ashley Carr, Phil Churchill and Gary Callingham all putting the ball over or wide.

Sidley s first chance didn t arrive until 30 minutes into the match with a dipping shot from Peter Baker that flew well wide.

The home side made more of an impact early in the second half, with a cross from Baker too hot for keeper Pat Gannon to hold.

The ball was easily cleared as without Baker in the box, there was little to trouble the defence.

A frantic double save from Danny Poole at the other end meant Sidley claimed a share of the spoils.
