Sidley give champions a fright

A DEFIANT second half performance was not enough to prevent Sidley United from losing 2-1 away to Sussex champions Burgess Hill.

Trailing 2-0 at half time, it would have been easy to throw in the towel but they produced a galvanising display on Tuesday night.

Joint manager Glen Sully said: "Second half, to be fair to the lads, they played ever so well. We went at them and got amongst them."

Sidley could have had no complaints when Hillians took a 35th minute lead. Sean Edwards played a neat one-two and gave the impressive James Duffell no chance.

Nick Sullivan doubled the hosts' advantage three minutes from the interval after a mis-directed header from Lee Wood.

The second half introduction of Mark Funnell, Jordan Wood and Adam Day perked the visitors up a fraction and between them they provided the 83rd minute consolation as Wood cut the ball back for Funnell to convert.

Sidley won 2-1 at home to Shoreham the previous Saturday with goals from Graham Morris and Wood.
