Sidley gunning for shield glory

SIDLEY United joint manager Peter Heritage has promised to field a full-strength side in the Bexhill Observer Charity Shield against Bexhill United.

The former professional player says that everyone's raring to go and no-one will be rested even though the match (on Wednesday April 14) is sandwiched in between league matches.

"We've got quite a few games coming up but we will be at full-strength really," he said. "It's still a local thing and it's still local pride. All our lads want to play in it but if they don't perform on Saturday they won't be playing."

Bexhill manager Tony Monk has less fixture congestion fears as this Monday's visit from Newhaven is their final match of the Sussex Division Three season.

He commented: "It will be the strongest squad we've got available and we hope to get as many people down there as we can. We're playing badly in the league to build up their confidence and hopefully lull them into a false sense of security."

The match takes place at the Polegrove and kick-off is at 6.30pm. Admission is 3 for adults and 2 for concessions while fireworks and ra-ra girls will be among the entertainment. Any past players are welcome to come down to the control room at 6pm to be paraded onto the pitch beforehand. Gates open at 5.45pm.

Anyone wishing to help out should contact Dave Harris on 713593. Fifty per cent of gate receipts will go to each club and raffle takings to McMillan Nurses.
