Sidley home form causes concern

THE home form of Sidley United continues to cause concern as they crashed to a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Hailsham Town.

The Blues have picked up a solitary point from their opening three fixtures at Gullivers to leave them mid-table in Sussex Division One when victory on Tuesday would have seen them jump into third position.

Joint manager Andy Laskey said: "For some reason the home games this year have been our worse performances and last night when we were 2-0 down about six or seven players just disappeared really."

The first hour was evenly matched but Sidley did have chances to take the lead. Attacking midfielder Shae Spreafico wriggled clear of the Hailsham defence but shot straight at the keeper while Dave Carey and Matt Dadswell both went close with snap shots.

The tone of the contest changed in a seven-minute spell midway through the second half when goals from Jarvis and Stevens put Hailsham firmly in the driving seat.

A free header for Paul Richardson increased Hailsham's lead before Kevin Rose grabbed a consolation a couple of minutes from time after the battling Jimmy Watson had hit the crossbar from 25 yards.

The previous Saturday the Blues drew 2-2 at home to Horsham YMCA with all the goals coming in a 11-minute in the first half, both Sidley goals coming from Dave Carey.
