Sidley on the up thanks to Ahmed

SIDLEY jumped two places off the foot of the Sussex Cricket League with a high-scoring win at home to Pulborough.

Safi Ahmed was once again the hero with a second century in successive weeks to enable the home side to reach an imposing target of 262-5.

The Indian batsman, who marked his Sidley debut by compiling an undefeated 103 in the win over Roffey the previous week, put together an innings of 118 out of a total of 263-6. Vital support came from Scott Woodroffe (66), while the pick of the visiting bowlers was Jody Healey (5-89).

Earlier, mid-table Pulborough had piled on the runs thanks to good knocks from Paul Allen (110) and Elliot Cloy (53 not out). Tyrone Wildman returned fine figures of 4-71.

Sidley picked up 24 points to leapfrog new basement boys Worthing and neighbours Bexhill, who were without a fixture.

Bexhill are back in action on Saturday August 5 with a trip to Pulborough, while Sidley entertain Worthing.
