Sidley slump to heaviest defeat

LITTLEHAMPTON TOWN 4SIDLEY UNITED 0SIDLEY United slumped to their third straight Sussex Division One defeat and sixth loss from seven away league games this season on Saturday.

Two goals in either half sent The Blues spinning to by far their heaviest reverse of the campaign to date.

"We've got into a bit of a rut at the moment," said manager Liam Barham, "and we need to get out of it as soon as we can. I just felt we made bad decisions at crucial times and we gave away another early goal after which it's always difficult to get going.

"They weren't a bad side, but we were disappointing all the way through. We looked dodgy defensively, but then we looked dodgy all over. We can't just go out and expect something to fall into our laps and we probably got what we deserved really. It wasn't a landslide, but I've got no complaints about the result."

The writing was perhaps on the wall for Sidley, who dropped Kevin Rose from the starting line-up as a punishment for collecting nine yellow cards already this season, from the early stages because they were behind within the opening four minutes.

And they were behind to a cracking goal because Peter Brackley fired a shot into the far stanchion from the right hand side of the penalty area after getting in behind Sidley left-back Lewis Hole.

United, whose also made two enforced changes up-front from their previous match at Hailsham Town, kept in touching distance until The Marigolds' struck a crucial second goal on the stroke of half time through Steve Davies, who won the title last season with Horsham YMCA.

The outcome was put beyond doubt when Ben Torode slotted the third goal on the hour and Kamara rounded off the scoring eight minutes from time.

Sidley: Newstead, Lister, Hole (Harrison), G. Morris, Steward, J. Wood, Watson, Miles, Clarke, S. Morris (Rose), Wooller (Barham).
