Sidley stumble at home to Town

SIDLEY United slipped to a 3-1 defeat at home to local rivals Eastbourne Town in the Sussex top flight on Tuesday evening.

The Blues looked to be on their way to three much-needed points when Kevin Rose fired them in-front on 17 minutes but the high-flying visitors hit back with three goals of their own.

Sidley have now won only two of their last 11 matches in all competitions. Joint manager Andy Laskey said: "We started alright but we gifted them the first two goals."

Sidley opened the scoring when Rose reacted quickest to Wes Tate's shot on the turn which cannoned against the underside of the crossbar. But just three minutes later the home side shot themselves in the foot when Owen Ball's attempted back header fell well short of keeper James Duffell and Gary Brockwell made no mistake.

Town took a deserved lead just before half time when Bobby Godfrey toe-poked home from close range before making the game safe midway through the second half through Graham Holman.

The previous Saturday Sidley lost 1-0 at East Preston.
