Sidley win keeps season alive

SIDLEY United kept their seaon alive with a gutsy 2-1 win over Eastbourne Town in the Sussex RUR Charity Cup on Tuesday night.

Defeat in this competition would have meant the Blues had only the league to concentrate on, but even after falling behind they refused to buckle and goals from Dave Carey and Shae Spreafico booked a place in the quarter-finals.

Victory tasted especially sweet as just a week earlier Sidley had been humbled 4-1 by the same opposition in the Sussex Senior Cup.

The tie didn't really get going until the second half when Town were awarded two penalties in 10 minutes. Gary Brockwell missed the first but Yemi Odbuade converted the second.

Carey levelled soon after and Spreafico grabbed the winner two minutes from the end of normal time.
