Silverhill Club celebrate Sunday double

SILVERHILL Club completed a league and cup double in the Hastings & East Sussex Sunday Football League as they romped to a 6-2 victory over Abbey in the Demarco Cup Final.

The league champions had the trophy all but won by half time as they stormed into a 5-1 lead in the rain at the Pilot Field.

Darren Goodridge claimed a first half hat-trick and there were also goals for Timmy-Lee Saunters and Danny Woodley before Paul Oliver pulled one back just before the interval.

James Carman added a sixth for Silverhill before Matt Winchester responded two minutes from time for an Abbey side reduced to 10 men during the second half following the sending-off of Alan Johnson.

The one remaining league game saw Old King John round off a remarkable season with a 5-1 win over Bo-Peep II. The unstoppable Carl Oxingham added four more goals to take his tally for the season to an incredible 97 and Shane Ryan also netted for the Division Three champions, while Jon Porter grabbed a consolation.

This result means OKJ have gone through the season without dropping a single point and league officials are checking to see if this has ever been done before since its inception in 1965. OKJ scored a total of 151 goals and conceded just 16 to finish 11 points clear of their nearest rivals.
