Skeleton star to hand out awards

A World Skeleton Championship bronze medallist will be the special guest at the Hastings Half Marathon prize-giving.

Lizzy Yarnold, who came third in the global event at Lake Placid during February, will hand out the various awards at Azur at the Marina Pavilion on Sunday April 29 from 7pm.

The Sevenoaks slider has enjoyed a fabulous season which also included claiming gold at the Skeleton Junior World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria.

What’s more, Yarnold won her first senior World Cup event in only her second senior outing at the age of 23, pipping 2006 Olympic silver medallist Shelley Rudman to take gold in St Moritz.

She was always involved in every sport available and found a love for athletics at 13. Yarnold competed in the heptathlon until she was talent-spotted for the skeleton at the age of 19.

The 28th Hastings Half Marathon took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday March 25. A total of 4,772 runners entered and more than 3,600 people completed the 13.1-mile route in front of record crowds.
