Slaughter stars in world class clash

RECORD breaking athlete Brian Slaughter scored the world's seventh best M45 Pentathlon total of all time in an incredibly high class European Indoor Masters Track and Field Championships.

Bexhill-based Slaughter, whose haul was the third highest ever from a Brit, obliterated his personal best by a phenomenal 300 points to finish a brilliant fourth place.

The event's 10-year-old world record was broken as seven athletes etched their names into the world's top 10 highest scorers of all time.

Slaughter, a former outdoor champion, said: "Fourth is the worst position to be in. But if you look at who I beat and who won the medals I cannot complain."

Slaughter reserved his best for the last of the six disciplines as he romped away with the 1,000m to haul himself up from eighth to fourth position.
