Snetterton proves a challenge for battling Herbert

Aldingbourne MX5 driver Luke Herbert was in action at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk for rounds 14, 15 and 16 of the Ma5da Racing MX5 Cup.

He qualified well for the first race, taking second position on the grid with a gap of only eight hundredths of a second between him and Tom Roche on pole.

After a good start, Herbert was caught up in an incident on lap three when fellow racer Jim Edwards jnr out-braked himself going into the hairpin at the second corner, colliding with Herbert and dropping him down to sixth, causing a significant amount of panel damage to Herbert’s driver’s door as well as dislodging the mirror.

Herbert fought his way back up to fourth and eventually made second with two laps remaining.

He was also second on the grid for the start of the second race, but a better start by the third-placed driver Roche saw him relegated to third.

Herbert decided to hold his position and work with Roche to reel in the disappearing Rob Boston.

Unfortunately a missed gear opened up a large gap between Herbert and Roche and dropped him into the clutches of fourth place, which he defended to the end.

Race three saw Herbert with his first pole position of the year, but an engine misfire saw him rapidly drop down the field. Believing that any finish was better than no finish at all, he battled on and picked up valuable championship points despite ending last.

The Ma5da Cup goes to Brands Hatch on August 13 and 14.
