Snooker pair through to Munich

Local snooker duo Mark Davis and Jimmy Robertson have booked their places in the final stages of the Munich Open.

St Leonards-based Davis convincingly beat two former world champions and Robertson, from Bexhill, also won two matches in the European Tour event six pre-qualifier yesterday (Monday).

World number 16 Davis began with a 4-0 victory over 21st-ranked Peter Ebdon thanks to breaks of 56, 106, 31 and 36 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.

He then came from behind to see off Shaun Murphy 4-1. After losing the opening frame to breaks of 40 and 58, Davis reeled off four in a row via runs of 55, 33, 30, 74 and 69.

World number 52 Robertson opened with a 4-0 win over Ross Higgins. Breaks of 59 and 40 put Robertson 2-0 up, a 43 clearance gave him the third on the black and a 39 helped clinch the win.

Robertson then came from 2-1 down to defeat 54th-ranked Yu Delu 4-2. He took the second and fourth frames without conceding a point courtesy of breaks of 71 and 78 before winning the last two with runs of 53 and 52.

Davis and Robertson will head to Germany for the final stages from January 4-6. Davis will face 47th-ranked Liu Chuang in the last 32 and Robertson will take on 44th-ranked Dave Harold.
