Solo sailors don't need to go it alone at Chichester

Many participants were still rather stiff from the exertions of the previous day’s Solo Open at Dell Quay.

Race one saw everyone a general recall.

With better behaviour at the second attempt, the race was won by Lee Sydenham from the home club.

In race two, with the wind reducing all the time and becoming more variable, boats starting in the middle of the line went almost straight to the windward mark.

It was won by yet another home sailor, Ian Barnett.

Race three took place with barely a zephyr and was straight into the strengthening tide.

Roger Puttock (DQSC) was the winner with Barnett fourth.

This left Barnett in his new Gosling boat the clear winner on five points, but all four other places in the top five equal on six.

Second was Puttock, third Sydenham, fourth Barry Wicks and first over-50, fifth Mike Dray.

First grand master (over-60) was Dave Sayce (4603) from Hayling Island SC with 16 points.

Intrepid Mark Harper from Chichester YC, with his International Finn-class dinghy, travelled to Warsash Sailing Club for the latest Finn open meeting.

This is his first year travelling to very competitive open circuit events and over two days and six races, Harper achieved a creditable 11th place.
