Blackbird has been scoring heavily for the Eagles this year and last Friday (May 30) had a guest booking for Coventry where he rode in the main body of the team and still scored 9+1 points and helped the home team pull off a narrow win over Birmingham.

Blackbird said, “Things are going so well at the minute. I am just pleased that Eastbourne choose me to be here. I am happy with everything here.

“The fans are good, the track is good, everything seems to be going well.”

He said speedway is a confidence sport and success was helping him progress.

“I just feeI am doing the same things as last year but a lot faster. I think I am surprising myself every time I ride.

“I am just going to keep my head down and take slow and steady steps and it will come good in the end,” he said.

The British Final will be held at Wolverhampton on June 16 – a track Blackbird is well used to having ridden it as his home circuit for Dudley in last year’s National League.

Blackbird said, “I think you have to go there and believe in yourself and that you could win it. I know it is going to be tough.

“In reality is not very likely that I will win it but I am going to go there with the attitude that I will not give them an inch and we shall see what happens.”

Blackbird was once again in top form for the Eagles in the latest home victory on Saturday.

Blackbird scored 12 points as his side beat Leicester Lions 55-36 see page 38 for match report.
