The duo were among about 20 riders taking part in a practice session, the first of the new year.

Halsey already has experience of the Eastbourne track having ridden there as a junior some years ago.

Blackbird’s experience (pictured below) is more limited but he caught the eye when taking part in the Championships of Sussex towards the end of last season.

The practice session was organised by Martin Dugard and son Connor, who is the Lifestyle Eagles’ commercial manager.

Club co-promoter Trevor Geer and captain Cameron Woodward were also watching.

Also taking part were Martin’s other son Kelsey and Eagles’ asset, Brandon Freemantle, who rides this year for the Kent Kings.

Among those on tracks was Robert Lambert, tipped by many as a star of the future who will be a member of this year’s King’s Lynn team.

The practice session attracted riders from a wide area; some youngsters at the most junior level to those who will be a part of this year’s Elite League.
