The raft of medals saw her take the overall BAGCAT prize for the championship out of the 78 girls competing, and she has achieved a highest UK rank of second in the 200m backstroke.

Mum Jane Atkinson said: “She’s really pleased because it was her first ever competition and she was a little nervous before hand. She’s been swimming since the age of about six months along with her sister but it’s only now she’s turned nine she can actually compete.

“Her backstroke is probably her strongest stroke, but she was really surprised to win the overall individual BAGCAT award.”

Daisy, who lives in Petworth also achieved qualifying times for the South East Regionals in Crawley in May and June this year, where she’ll compete as a ten year old.

Daisy swims and trains at Guildford City Swimming Club with her younger sister Lily, who will also be eligible to compete when she turns nine in April this year.
