Sprints get a quick start - but Chichester Harriers swoop for win

Chichester Harriers 34

A competitive start from Sprints left the Chichester Harriers a point behind after the first quarter of their netball clash.

Harriers quickly pulled together and stuck to their game, which took them into the lead by the end of the second quarter.

With slippery court conditions and heavy rain, a slower pace continued for the rest of the match. Short sharp passes were imperative to maintain possession, which was well-executed by the whole team but in particular by Jo Laker (WA), Sarah Harvey (GA) and Lindsey Cox (GS).

Tight defence from Sprints in the circle gave Cox and Harvey little room for error but with even-handed shooting from the two, goals were scored.

All the excitement was at the opposite end of the court with Catherine Faircloth (GD) and Franki Brown (GK) swiftly turning play back around, dashing any second shooting opportunities for the opposition’s goal shooter and goal attack.

Support in mid-court was largely dominated by Julie Lovell (WD), Laker and team captain Laura Birkhead (C), who intercepted a number of phenomenal passes to contribute hugely to the 34-26 win.

This was a satisfying win for the Harriers.

Player of the match was Harvey.
