St Richard’s win national title

A team from St Richard’s Catholic College has been crowned national schools’ biathlon champions.

The under-13 boys’ squad of Dominic Elphick, Noah Canby and Matt Wilson was victorious in the PGB National Schools’ Biathlon Final at the London Aquatics Centre.

St Richard’s totalled 7,229 points to finish well clear of runners-up Whitgift School (6,950) and third-placed Caterham School (6,933) in the team standings.

Individually, Elphick came 15th with 2,507 points, Canby was 20th with 2,464 and Wilson finished 43rd with 2,258 out of a strong field of more than 100 competitors.

Having booked their place in the national final by coming through two qualifying rounds, the team enjoyed the opportunity to compete at the Olympic Park on its first weekend of opening since the London 2012 Games.

The St Richard’s pupils gained enormous experience by completing the swimming element of the competition in the Olympic pool and the running aspect around the Olympic Park.
