Stacey’s hopes dashedemphatically in last 16 of world championships

Mid Sussex hopes of producing a world champion were dashed a little earlier than expected when Stacey Hancock crashed out of the world pool championships in the last 16.

Some in the game believed the Burgess Hill 27-year-old could become the youngest world champion but after mounting strong comebacks to get through the first two rounds, Hancock fell 6-1 to South African Amy-Claire King.

Her victor went out in the quarter finals to No 2 seed Barbara Taylor (England), who won 7-4 and then edged out Lynette Horsburgh (Scotland) 7-6 to earn a place in the final yesterday (Wednesday) against No 1 seed Emma Cunningham (Northern Ireland).
