Star may return

THIS year's £300,000 Group One BGC Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood looks set to be another fascinating renewal with a total of 57 horses entered for the prestigious mile contest.

The race is the highlight of racing on the second day of Glorious Goodwood, Wednesday, July 29.

Having saddled Asiatic Boy to finish fourth in the race in 2007, South African trainer Mike De Kock is considering a return to Goodwood with another globetrotting star, Archipenko.

The five-year-old was fifth behind Ramonti in the BGC Sussex Stakes in 2007, when trained by Aidan O'Brien, but progressed under De Kock to take the Group One Audemars Piguet QE II Cup at Sha Tin in April, 2008, and gave his trainer a first British Group victory in the Group Two Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot in July last year.

He followed up that success with a staying-on second in the Grade One Arlington Million in America the following month and began the current campaign with a comfortable success in a Group Three contest at Nad Al Sheba, Dubai, in February, prior to finishing sixth in Group One company in both the Dubai Duty Free and Hong Kong's Audemars Piguet QE II Cup in April.
